Powerful auto-panning
Inspired by classic hardware auto-panners, PanMan incorporates some of the key principles but takes them to the next level with a myriad of additional features and modes. One of the most unique functions of PanMan comes in the form of the trigger divider, inspired by a classic outboard auto-panning effects processer, that allows you to set the number of triggers it takes to move your panning to a new position. With this, you can manually or automatically set the number via automation with your host platform, manually clicking in the numbers or even using the advanced threshold control to have it respond in real-time to incoming audio!
Not content with simply providing you with a basic panning function, the PanMan features a host of exciting and unique parameters that enable you to experiment with panning as a creative, rhythmic effect that can become a vital part of your arrangement. A filter has been included so that you can trigger your panning to targetted frequencies, affecting only the selected bands and leaving the rest untouched. This can be extremely useful when working with full-range instruments that cover a broad spectrum to give them space in a dense mix, such as a piano that covers low bass and melodic highs. What's more, there are seven different analog modes that you can implement to add saturation and complex harmonics to your signal when PanMan is being pushed hard.
Built to experiment
Like other products in the SoundToys offering, PanMan provides advanced rhythmic tools that let you create unique signature effects. Utilising two different rhythm modes, Step and Shape, you are provided with the tools to really flex your creative muscle and embark on a journey into panning, far beyond what is possible with your average DAW panning dial. Step mode lets you manually punch in a new position in the stereo field with each beat, synced to your DAW, you will always be on time with your music, while the Shape mode lets you select from a library of preset shapes, or draw your own!
Life moves in cycles, with ups, downs and rests, much like our favourite music, therefore with this in mind PanMan offers you a Threshold control to use the dynamics of your track to set parameters such as width, speed and offset. Now, you can control the stereo image of your track depending on your performance, allowing you to be as expressive as you want without worrying about static panning, PanMan will play along with you for a harmonious and sweeping soundstage. You could be playing a swelling cymbal or snare roll that ramps the speed up with the intensity of your playing or you could be performing solo piano and want an ebbing and flowing stereo image when you increase and decrease the volume of your playing, there's no limit to what's possible with dynamic control!
