Multi-band expansion

While the bulk of the 6034's processing power comes in the form of compression modules, it also features expander modules that provide invaluable for mixing engineers. Using the expander modules, each of the user-defined frequency bands can apply downward or upward expansion, unlocking a huge variety of tonal shaping options. Using the downwards expansion, you can reduce the decay in the room tone of your sound, making it ideal for removing any boxy or muddy sounding drum room decay for your drum shells. Upward expansion allows you to pump your tone up and let it jump out of your mix, ideal for pushing the high-midrange of a driving rock vocal performance.

Clamp down on your drum mix

For instruments that span the entire frequency spectrum, using the McDSP 6034 Ultimate MB is the ideal solution for controlling the dynamics across targetted frequency ranges. A common example would be your conventional drum kit, with a bass drum occupying the lower frequencies, snare drums and toms covering the mid-range and cymbals taking care of the sizzling high-end. With the McDSP 6034, the three-band crossover provides the perfect platform for processing the dynamics of your drum kit and treating each part of the kit differently to achieve a professional and polished sound in your mix. Use the expansion module to apply upward expansion on your bass drum and let it explode in your track for a thundering low-end while using an aggressive 2A-style limiter on your mid-range to tame any poking snare drum resonances and the saturation on your cymbals to give them extra harmonics and sizzle, the options are endless!

Add punch to your vocals

An often tricky aspect to mix, vocals are an extremely dynamic instrument with a different set of challenges than any other instrument. Plosives and sibilance present a completely unique challenge that needs mixing in a different way to your typical acoustic guitar, drum, piano or other instruments. With the 6034 Ultimate MB, you have the ability to hone in on a specific frequency range and apply compression, limiting or downward expansion to tame those pesky 'P' and 'B' sounds as well as the harsh 's' sound from a sibilant singer. The ability to audition different modules and edit the crossover slopes provides you with a huge range of tonal options to find the exact right sound for your vocal mixes.
