Unique vintage-style ribbon microphone

The Golden Age Project R2 MKII Passive Ribbon Mic combines vintage-style sound and design with modern day technology to produce this highly unique ribbon microphone. At the heart of the microphone is a slimline ribbon element.

This ribbon is smaller and narrower compared to conventional ribbon microphones, resulting a darker and moodier tone. The result is ultra-realistic sound reproduction, with a fast and natural transient response, resulting in optimal audio fidelity. Its vintage-style sound and overtones, are reminiscent of retro ribbon microphones from the late 70s and early 80s. It includes a figure-8 polar pattern for wider sweet spots on the front and the rear of the capsule, whilst providing side rejection for optimised performance.

Darker tonal character

The internal ribbon measures at 42mm in length and 2.5 micron thick, constructed from aluminium foil. The shorter design results in a darker and more atmospheric sound, with the microphone rolling off higher frequencies earlier. It is suited to a range of recording applications, ideal for clean and distorted electric guitar signals.

The R2 MKII is also suitable for recording brass instruments, vocal and variety of other sound sources. The internal shock mount helps to provide maximum stability for the capsule, resulting in minimal structure borne noise and improved audio fidelity. The microphone itself was created using the finest materials, ensuring the best possible audio performance every time.

The vintage-style design is reminiscent of older ribbon microphones form the late 70s and 80s, recreating that retro aesthetic in great detail. The large diaphragm design ensures you capture every nuance of your performance, coupled with the extended frequency range for impressive sonic accuracy. It can be used with any standard mixer or microphone preamp, and can be used with a high-pass filter on either units. The pure aluminium construction is not only robust but helps to improve its lifespan. Additionally, the microphone comes complete with a wooden box with a padded interior for storing and transporting your microphone with maximum protection.
