Multi-band crossovers
Designed with five adjustable crossovers, Alchemist allows you to independently process each band with all the onboard processors discretely. Frequency bands are divided using state-of-the-art IIR (Infinite Impulse Response) crossovers, boasting a range from 18dB - 54dB per octave, ensuring you can accurately isolate each band how you want. By isolating each frequency, you have more control over the dynamics processing of each, letting you create more balanced mixes or masters. Applying compression to specific regions can help with bass-heavy tracks in the EDM genres to tame loud dynamic peaks for a more cohesive mix with the rest of the frequency response.
Multi-band processing
With five unique processors per band, Alchemist provides the full gamut of dynamic processing tools to fix any problem, tame any peak, add energy to specific frequency bands or re-introduce lost dynamics. With Alchemist, it's a combination of most of the dynamic processing tools that FLUX currently offers, encompassing the Compressor, De-Compressor, Expander, De-Expander and the BitterSweet Transient Designer.
The Compressor module acts as a traditional compressor with a distinctive analog sound. It lets you model the feel and tone of many revered hardware units, taming the dynamic peaks by reducing the loudest peaks of the signal and increasing the volume of the lowest for a more cohesive and consistent sound. Expander works close to a gate plug-in but in reverse. The Expander lets you increase the level of signal against a set threshold level to make it stand out in level compared to the rest of your track. This can be particularly useful for increasing the volume of a snare drum in a drum overhead microphone channel to add more room tone to your snare sound.
De-Expander uses a proprietary "Angel's Share" algorithm developed exclusively by FLUX to enhance the low levels of the sound in an upwards way. This is ideal for use on a vocalist recording track where they may move away from the microphone for louder, higher and stronger notes to maintain a consistent volume across the entire recorded track. Lastly, the BitterSweet is a simple transient response designer, allowing you to increase or decrease the attack portion of a signal, emphasising punch or sustain, perfect for use on transient-heavy instruments such as drums or percussion.
Comprehensive dynamic control
Alongside the common parameters found on dynamic controllers such as ratio, attack and release, Alchemist provides controls to adjust the fundamental characteristics of the processing including Envelope, Time and Detection settings. Advanced Envelope settings provide you with full AHR control with Auto and Advanced Release modes, ensuring you can match the time response to the tempo and speed of your track. Additionally, a Zero attack time for the dynamics processing is introduced with a delay reflecting the attack time into the signal path.
Eight different detection modes interact with the time and envelope settings as well as with the integration times for the RMS detection. Includes specific “Feed Backward” modes inspired by vintage hardware architectures for producing a naturally “beefy” sound.
Individual multichannel processing
The Flux Alchemist plug-in offers exceptional flexibility with its multichannel processing capabilities, allowing for a truly customized audio experience. With support for up to sixteen channels of simultaneous processing, users can effortlessly configure multichannel surround setups to suit their specific needs.
One of the standout features of this plug-in is the ability to selectively disengage processing on any of the channels. This leaves the original sound unprocessed and bypassed, providing precise control over which channels are modified and which remain untouched. This level of customization ensures that each channel can be fine-tuned to achieve the desired audio output.
Furthermore, Flux Alchemist enables users to combine multiple instances of the plug-in in a serial configuration. By doing so, users can process material on any number of channels with distinct settings tailored to each channel's unique requirements.
Preset and parameter handling
In the FLUX Alchemist plug-in, Preset and Parameter Handling is designed to optimize workflow efficiency. The plug-in features two Preset/Parameter slots, A and B, which can simultaneously hold two complete sets of parameters. Users can save individual presets as well as a "Global Preset" that encompasses both A and B settings and the position of the "Morphing Slider."
The Morphing Slider enables seamless blending between the parameter settings of slots A and B, offering creative and practical real-time adjustments. By activating the Automation control button, the Morphing Slider becomes accessible for host automation, further enhancing user control and flexibility.
