Cycling '74 Max 8 features a set of tools known as MSP that are specifically crafted for the processing of audio. With this, you are free to design your own synthesizer, starting with something as simple as a monophonic synth or LFO, or push yourself and design a completely unique instrument that you can control with external sources such as games controllers, furniture or even a piece of paper. Not only that, but you can then create your own effects processors to modulate and augment your sounds to the extent that your heart desires. The choice is yours and you'll always find new and interesting avenues to explore.
MC - Create complex sounds
With Max 8, Cycling 74' have added something new in the form of MC. MC allows you to create more varied and layered sounds, simply add 'MC' to the start of any of your MSP objects to add multichannel patch cords that allow you to manipulate multiple audio channels represented by the simple minimalist visuals and layout you're already familiar with. It will revolutionise the way you think about audio and sound design and lead you to start thinking of new ways to mix and process your sounds.
Jitter - visual creation
Max 8 is not only for audio processing but with the help of Jitter you are entered into a world of video and visual manipulation. As you'd expect video effect creation is limitless and will have you using such effects as spatial warping and colour space conversion to really step your video editing up a notch. When combined with MSP for audiovisual work you can create powerful tools where not only is your video is affected by your sound but also, where the parameters of your sounds are affected by your video. Once you start using Max 8 and begin revealing new pathways to creating your projects it will be your go-to software and will be impossible to use anything else.
