The best of both worlds
Why would you use a preamp plug-in if you've already recorded through a preamp I hear you say? Modern preamps have been designed to deliver a highly-transparent tone, imparting very little or no tonal characteristics in favour of providing a blank canvas on which you can add your processing.
During the golden age of analog production and equipment, the nature of the preamps meant that each one would deliver a certain character, resulting in a particular "sound". Subtly enhancing your sound with desirable distortion, harmonics and tone, it became common practice to drive preamps as part of the creative process to create rich and unique tones. Now available as a virtual plug-in in your DAW, you can directly inject the characteristics of vintage preamps into your tracks, even after they've been recorded, giving you the flexibility of both worlds.
Discover an industry-legend
Creating a plug-in which closely emulates the sound of the original is not the vision that Arturia have, and this is evident with TridA-Pre. This is a virtual replica of the hardware, letting you enjoy all the nuance of the original with all the analog character you can imagine.
Instantly recognisable, the four-band twin-channel EQ stands out as one of the most musical, complex and flexible hardware preamp EQs available, and Arturia has spared no expense in implementing each piece in this plug-in. The high, high-mid, low-mid, and low EQ bands each have four switchable frequencies, calibrated to match the original specification. With up to 15dB cut or boost there's plenty of scope to sculpt and manipulate your signal in any way you need.
Up to +40dB input gain is on-tap to allow you to drive any source into subtle overdrive, enhancing the harmonic content for a more natural and saturated tone, helping to perfectly sit in your mix. This can of course be driven into solid-state-like distortion, making it ideal for synth leads, vocal effects or electric guitar distortion.
Technology evolved
Trends may come and go but for musicians and producers, the only constant is the desire to get the best sound for your projects. As technology improves and makes producing and creating music even easier than ever, Arturia's TridA-Pre puts one of the most sought-after, rare console preamps into your DAW and enhances it for the demands of modern production techniques.
Although released close to 50 years ago, the unmistakable sound of the TridA-Pre is unequalled. Imparting the character and warmth that hardware is renowned for, nothing quite sounds the same, so why not have the next best thing at a fraction of the price, direct in your DAW?
Creating a plug-in which delivers an identical sonic signature is only the beginning of Arturia's goal, leading them to implement a range of smart addendums to bring the TridA-Pre into the 21st century.
Continuous controls have been implemented in favour of the traditional stepped parameters, letting you mix between the lines and improve the accuracy of your settings. Perfect for dialling in just the right amount of input drive for subtle overtones or for setting the level of your EQ frequency.
Eliminating the traditional manual adjustments, TridA-Pre now includes automatic gain controls to perfectly match the input and output levels depending on your settings, ensuring you hear only the tonal changes rather than any volume changes in your tone.
Taking advantage of digital DAW production, TridA-Pre includes left/right and mid/side stereo processing. Process left, right, mid or side channels independently with individual control over drive, output and EQ settings for more precise control over your tone.
Cracking the code
Boasting a reputation for making the most accurate and authentic vintage synthesizers and keyboards, Arturia has taken this expertise with them in recreating the most sought-after hardware preamps. Bringing to your DAW one of the rarest preamplifiers available, with only 13 ever made, TridA-Pre puts virtual gold dust at your fingertips.
The journey to find a unit in perfect working condition culminated in Denmark at Sweet Silence North Studios. The musical home of Grammy award-winning producer Flemming Rasmussen, whose critically acclaimed work with metal acts like Metallica, Morbid Angel, Blind Guardian and Ensiferum features the TridA-Pre heavily. A linchpin of his production style, TridA-Pre was part of a larger console to deliver the signature sound of early '80s heavy records.
Powered by technology
Using proprietary modelling algorithms, Arturia TridA-Pre can recreate the iconic hardware down to the component parts to create unrivalled realism and immersion. Unmatched in analog emulation, Arturia TridA-Pre is powered by TAE and Phi technologies. TAE offers component-level modelling to accurately present the characteristics and behaviour of the hardware, whilst Phi's state-of-the-art physical modelling brings the acoustic properties into the virtual world for hyper-realism. The result is truly a next-level sound that is indistinguishable from the original to add to your productions.
Reviews
"Sometimes the smallest tweaks can make just the right difference." - Mark Bowen (IDLES)
"Very useful EQ after one of the first consoles I learned on. Great presets to get you started as well. Having input and output gain really helps." - Brian Scheuble (Mix Engineer - Dave Matthews, Fiona Apple, John Mayer)
"TridA-Pre beautifully recreates the curves and adds really hand features like mid/side processing and in/out gain. It may be the most musical EQ plug-in I've ever used in recent memory, plus it's extremely light on CPU so it won't bog down your mix sessions." - Andy Toy (Miguel, Sabrina Carpenter, Kiiara)
