The Iconic Overdrive Sound
The overdrive sound has become synonymous in the world of music, used by thousands of players from every possible genre, including The Edge, Trey Anastasio, Buddy Guy, Kirk Hammett, John Mayer, SRV, and Carlos Santana. Out of all the variations and renditions of this iconic sound, the Tubescream is probably the most renown, most produced, and most sold in the history of guitar pedals. The JHS Pedals Bonsai Overdrive takes 9 of these classic, vintage, rare, or hard-to-find variations of the Screamer and perfectly replicates every aspect of their sound and feel into one pedal.
World Recognised Boutique Pedals
JHS Pedals has evolved from a one man, bedroom operation, to a world recognised boutique effects pedal company, featuring simplistic designs with hand-wired components. Josh Scott, founder of JHS Pedals, began by modifying pedals he had on his personal board. Years of touring and session work led Josh to realise exactly what it is that players want from their pedals which meant building them from the ground up to achieve perfection.
Hand Built to Perfection
JHS Pedals are hand-built in Kansas City USA, the company has a core value that JHS builders will never be replaced by robots. Every boutique JHS pedal is made and tested by a highly skilled pedal builder to ensure that every JHS pedal is crafted to perfection.
Overdrive Models
OD-1 – 1977
The OD-1 is an overall bright and slightly high gain overdrive which doesn’t use the tone control. When selecting this mode, the pedal inverts its signal, just like the original, and delivers a symmetrical clipping. The OD-1 is the ideal choice for boosting other drives and amps into singing saturation, giving your tone a magical feel.
TS-808 – 1979
The TS-808 is perfect for giving your sound that classic low gain with a signature pronounced mid-range.
TS-9 - 1982
the TS-9 offers an almost identical tone quality as the TS-808, but provides a slightly more pushed low-mid range, ideal for creating extra grunge and thunder.
MSL, Power or L Series – 1985
The MSL mode delivers an iconic metal tone, which may not quite inspire the modern metal djent we think of. Selecting this mode with provide your tone with an incredibly high gain sound with an powerful low-end and an overall more gooey feeling than the other modes.
TS-10 – 1986
The TS-10 mode embodies the very pedal made famous by John Mayer, offering a slightly upgraded version for a more bluesy and crisp tone with excellent low-end roll off and low gain.
Exar OD-1 1989
The Exar OD-1 is a TS-style overdriven pedal made in Poland, offering a slightly different drive character with a little more gain than classic tubescreamers. This overdrive also offers a slightly more transparent feel, providing a nice mix of overdriven and clean soundscapes.
TS-7 (+mode) – 1999
The TS-7 mode provides a hot tone, offering the highest gain sound the Bonsai offers. Designed with an incredibly amount of low-end and dirt fill out, the TS-7 is the ideal choice for delivering killer tones and shredding licks.
