Create a Wide Range of Chorus Effects

To create the incredible chorus effect for the CS-9 pro, Maxon based its circuitry around the Panasonic MN3207 Bucket Brigade IC which is controlled by a Panasonic MN3102 low-voltage clock driver IC, creating a wide range of classic chorus tones with a “vintage lo-fi warmth”. Bold and resonant, the pedal provides an effect that isn’t too harsh but has an edgy, grainy quality that keeps the tone articulate and prevents wash-out. Custom tuned oscillator circuitry provides the pedal with enough speed and authentic rotary speaker simulation to create a lush vibration that has the right amount of modulation. A selection of controls provide the perfect tweakable parameters to find the right chorus for your sound, or create a flange like effect that adds a resonant hollow quality that’s great for solos.

A Unique Spatial Effect

A unique feature of the CS-9 Stereo Chorus Pro is the ability to create spatial effects, adding an extra dimension to the guitars tone without adding any of the traditional chorus wobble. By setting the speed and depth to a low setting and ramping up the delay to max, the pedal thickens up the sound as though it’s a double tracked guitar, adding girth and life without excessive modulation.

About Maxon

Maxon started out in Japan in 1965 under the name Nisshin Onpa, manufacturing guitar pickups before producing OEM products for other companies. Nisshin Onpa was responsible for designing and manufacturing many legendary pedals while working in partnership with Ibanez, including the TS-808/TS808 and TS9 tube screamers. Although many of the pedals Maxon created were released under the Ibanez name, Maxon was producing pedals under their own name, and in 2002 when the two companies parted way, Maxon began to push its name as a manufacturer of high-quality effects pedals. Today Maxon produce "hard-to-find" vintage type effects pedals, and are used by many artists such as Pearl Jam, Troy Van Leeuwen, Steve Stevens, Brad Whitford, and many more.
