Solid Mahogany Construction

The Great Wave Uke’s body is built entirely from solid mahogany, which produces plenty of treble tones and an incredibly rich warmth. The mahogany body offers plenty of volume, with a strong balance between the high-end and low-end to allow this uke to retain an authentic ukulele tone. Its mahogany body also delivers a focused, punchy mid-range, thick well-defined tones, and sings sweet sparkling highs with plenty of characterised warmth.

Mahogany Neck & Walnut Fingerboard

Constructed from mahogany, this Luna Ukulele's neck produces warmth, resonance, and has a natural ability to respond superbly well to numerous techniques and playing styles. Additionally, its neck features Luna's especially designed C shaped profile, providing a comfortable playing experience throughout every position up and down the neck, as well as preventing the likeliness of a cramping hand. Its smooth playing neck is topped with a walnut fingerboard, adding plenty of balance, and a pleasing earthy warmth to the overall tone. In addition, the walnut fingerboard is sprinkled with pearl dot inlays for added elegance.

Soprano Size

The Luna Great Wave Ukulele features the standard soprano body shape, which is ideal for achieving a bright, warm sound with emphasised high harmonics. The Soprano offers a classic ukulele tone, blended with Luna quality craftsmanship and construction. The Bamboo Soprano's small body provides a comfortable playing experience, and is ideal for smaller players.

The Luna Look

Luna are well known for their enchanting vibe and spiritually engaging designs; the Great Wave certainly embodies Luna's meaningful philosophy. The Great Wave Ukulele takes it inspiration from Katsushika Hokusai's remarkable print work and features one of his paintings 'The Great Wave' on the ukulele's mahogany top. The painting's rich colours and meaningful design embodies Luna's vision beautifully, as well as providing players with a visually striking instrument that will stand out in any venue. The Great Wave Ukulele carries on the waves and sea theme by finishing the neck and back with a rich, dark, blue stain to represent the ocean. The ocean also glistens when caught by sunlight, Luna have represented this by using beautiful pearloid tuners, and sprinkling the fingerboard with pearl dot inlays.

Luna History

Yvonne Villiers is an accomplished stained-glass artist who envisioned Luna guitars. Her inspiration for a line of guitars designed to maximise playing comfort came from her mother, Hilda Villiers, a bassist for over 40 years. Whilst watching her mum on stage, Yvonne couldn't help but notice the massive struggle her mum had whilst playing. With her mum being petite and using such a heavy instrument, she used to complain of how hard it was to be a woman and try to play these big bass guitars.

Yvonne then questioned if there were others like her mum that struggled with the same problems and pains. She came up with the idea of a woman specific guitar, uniquely tailored to fit their bodies, their hands, and their musical styles. Yvonne moved on to created Luna guitars, a line of guitars made for female musicians of all ages and crafted with luminous visual beauty to engage women's minds and spirits along with their talent.

Yvonne already had brilliant artistic skills and use of colour, she then applied the same techniques as she did with her award winning stained-glass work to her new line of guitars. She is known for using rich colours that shimmer and shine with every movement providing an eye-catching design along with the great musical tones Luna guitars deliver. Yvonne's design expertise has led so many men to respond to Luna's well-crafted, spirit-engaging instruments that the company now creates guitars for both female and male musicians of all ages.
