With a sitka spruce top, the J-45 Custom provides longevity and a uniform grain. Its solid sitka spruce produces versatility, crisp articulation, and a broad dynamic range that will accommodate numerous genres and techniques with ease. Combined with rosewood back and sides the J-45 Custom delivers clear articulation, with deep lows and a throaty growl. The resonant and visually striking rosewood back and sides also offer a sonic warmth and great depth. Both tonewoods add their own distinctive character to the overall tone of the Gibson J-45 Custom, and also offers a high-level of professional performance through its superb construction and design.

Mahogany Neck & Richlite Fingerboard

Constructed from mahogany, the J-45 Custom's neck provides players with plenty of resonance and durability. Mahogany is commonly used to construct guitar necks, as the wood responds greatly to many different playing techniques, and also offers a sonic warmth. The neck is topped with a richlite fingerboard that offers the feel, playability, and appearance of ebony. Players can expect great sustain, bright attack, and supreme playability from this special richlite fingerboard. Richlite is scratch, heat, and stain-resistant, as well as being non-toxic and non-warping. Its environmentally friendly fingerboard is sprinkled with abalone split diamond inlays for added elegance and a high-end finish.

Round Shoulder Dreadnought Body

The Gibson J-45 Custom features an iconic round shoulder dreadnought body shape which provides plenty of projection and maintains overall tonal balance. The dreadnought shape was originally designed for hard pick attack. However through years of superb craftsmanship, Gibson have created a stunningly toned, well-balanced dreadnought voice that can handle many genres and styles of play with equal ease. The big body is better suited to players with a longer reach, and those more comfortable with the dreadnought size. The sheer volume the J-45 Custom can project makes it ideal for the singer/songwriter, as vocalists can really push their diaphragm to the max and not feel too loud against the guitar's volume, as it will sing as loud as you do. The round shoulder body delivers an impeccable dynamic range, warm mids, and tight punchy bass. LR Baggs Element with Rotary Controls

The Gibson J-45 Custom comes equipped with the popular VTC Element Pickup from L.R. Baggs, which features a low-profile undersaddle pickup that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Combined with an unobtrusive and removable volume/tone control mounted just inside the soundhole, the Element delivers a performance not previously attainable from an undersaddle pickup. Its sleek and effective design removes unnecessary internal components to enhance the coupling between the pickup and the guitar, and improve the sensitivity for a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and delicate high end. The Element works with a standard 9V battery, which is housed inside the guitar.
